Red Light (Eyeworks Film & TV Drama / WBITVP)

Red Light is an upcoming drama series that will air on VTM (Belgium) and BNNVARA (The Netherlands). The series is produced by Eyeworks Film & TV Drama and Warner Bros International Television Production. This Belgian/Dutch production boasts an amzing cast: Dutch actresses Carice van Houten (Game of Thrones, The Fifth Estate, Black Book), Halina Reijn (Blind, Obsession, Valkyrie) and the Belgian Maaike Neuville (Clan, Day, Flesh and Blood) and is about 3 women, each at a turning point in their lives, who get caught in a world of prostitution and human trafficking when one of their husbands disappears. Shooting started in August and will finish up early February. Red Light is expected to air Fall 2020. This is my sixt Art Department collaboration with Stijn Verhoeven and it just keeps getting better and better!   Not much to show yet, but you can read up on the series on the following link: http://www.eyeworksfilm.be/en/productions/red-light-2/

Baptiste (BBC, Two Brothers Pictures, CZAR)

Baptiste is a BBC series that is a follow-up to the critically acclaimed 'The Missing', of which 2 seasons have aired. Don't think of it as a third season, but a as a new series, where Julien Baptiste (played by Tchéky Karyo) takes on a new case in Amsterdam. Other starring roles were Tom Hollander, Jessica Raine and Belgian actrice Barbara Sarafian. For 5 months (June to Oktober) I was the graphical designer on this project. And that's massive, because Baptiste takes place in Amsterdam (and its Red Light district), but was filmed in Belgium, we had to recreate Amsterdam right here. Also, BBC doesn't show brands, so every label, every beer, every cigarette, had to be designed. This meant coming up with multiple fake brands and their designs every day, checking names with the legal department, and design everything quick enough to be printed/rendered and ready for set. A peanut butter label, a fake meditation app on a phone, a 5 metre high neon sign, a logo for a ficticious airline,..., all in a day's work. I had an amazing and intensive, 5 months. Amazing collaborations with Alison Riva (production designer), Stijn Verhoeven (Art Director), Myrthe Douma (props master) and Sanne Rubbrecht (Set […]

Patser (film)

Patser is the third film by directors duo Bilall Fallah & Adil El Arbi. The dynamic twosome that previously made 'Image' and 'Black'. It's about four dealer friends in Antwerp, who want to become real life swaggers. Only their lives spin out of control when they steal a shipment of cocaine and trigger a full-out war between them, and Amsterdam drug lord and the ruthless Colombian cartels. Starring Matteo Simoni, Nora Gharib, Nabil Mallat, Saïd Boumazoughe and Junes Lazaar. Patster is my fifth design collaboration with Stijn Verhoeven, who art directed this film (after Tytgat Chocolat, H.I.T., Lost in the middle and Alleen Eline) and by far the most creative. Though I did not design the Patser Logo, my job was designing everything from billboards hanging in the streets, Colombian drug stamps, olive oil labels, to the entire front and inside graphics of a Moroccan pizza restaurant. All gloriously climaxed by some over-the-top slow-motion boxing match graphics illuminating a big fight night. Below are the designs I made for this incredibly awesome and versatile project. Patser is a rollercoaster of a movie, so I hope you spot my design all around the settings. But I'm starting with with a picture a picture […]

European commission

What better way to emphasize the importance of urban mobility than to have people flying around and crashing into armpits in slow motion. This film explains how to improve mobility problems in cities and was co-created with BUUR. G-House deliverd an entire, tailormade 3D city in which the characters could fly, cycle, get stuck in traffic or try to pass each other on narrow sidewalks. This video was created under the production company jack in a box, on coöperation with BUUR, and directed by Toon Mertens.   The entire video was shot in a green key studio. And since the city was designed in 3D, the perspective of the background could easily be adjusted to the camera angle of the green key shots.

Hidrodoe (Pidpa)

When the water park Hidrodoe approached me to redesign come of their exhibition pieces, I couldn't resist. All elements where there: creating motion designs (fun!), creating them for children (awesome audience!) and working around water (finally!). Hidrodoe is an educational water park for children. It focusses on all things water: the uses, benefits, physics, but mostly the ecological use of water. And this is with good reason: Hidrodoe is owned by Pidpa, Antwerp's water supplier. So the conscious use of one of our planet's most precious recources is something they really take to heart.  It had been 15 years since the last update, so it was time for a new look. While installing new and cool scientific attractions, the people of Hidrodoe asked me to redesign some of the educational elements. One of them was the purification process of groundwater. I have a special bond with water. When I'm not having a blast creating everything you see on this portfolio, I scour the waters as an underwater photographer. This also means I have seen what pollution does to the environnement. And how clean, drinkable water is becoming more important every day. And after all my years creating audiovisual projects for Kapitein Winokio, […]

Tytgat Chocolat (deMENSEN, één)

About This acclaimed drama series is about a boy named Jasper. Jasper has Down Syndrome and works as  a packer at Tytgat Chocolat, a chocolate factory run by the empathic Roman Tytgat.  When his love Tina is abruptly send back to Kosovo, Jasper and his friends (all of them with mental disabilities) decide to go after her. Meanwhile, Roman Tytgat follows their trail to bring the workers home. For this series I designed the on-screen motion graphics, going from the instagram-like messageboard at th factory, to the GPS tracking system Roman uses to follow his colleagues. This series was gloriously art directed by Stijn Verhoeven, whom I've worked with on a numer of projects such as Patser and Alleen Eline. Screenshots

Fitbit / FibriCheck

Two promotional videos were made for the release of FibriCheck on Fitbit, making this the first medical app on Fitbit. Fibricheck has been a client for some time now. Their product is one of those that help save lives. By monitoring your heart rate and transfering this data to your cardiologist, people with arrhythmia have a severely reduced risk of suffering strokes. But mostly: this app is the real deal. It is perscription based. Imagine these facts: - 1 in 4 of adults develop arrhythmias in their life* - 4.24 million strokes each year bechause of arrhythmias* - 75% of these strokes can be prevented* (source: FibriCheck)   Besides that, the people of FibriCheck are genuinly nice and caring people, who invented their product following personal experiences. And this is always a factor for me. I have to believe in what I'm making or find myself in my client's mission statement. Once I do, I'll give 200%. Check their website for more information

Janssen Pharmaceutica / Adagio

This motion graphic was commissioned by Adagio Agency for Janssen Pharmaceuta. I was included from the very start so I wrote the script and designed the whole animation. Only the main character was delivered because it appears in similar motion graphics, so the entire look and feel of the video, including aditional characters, had to match this look.

Wouter Mattelin

Did you know that Radio 1 host Wouter Mattelin is a gifted guitar builder? And more specifically: an especially gifted resonator guitar builder? This live performance of guitarist David Piedfort on one of Mattelin's square-neck resonator guitars (which means they are played on the lap) got worldwide attention of musicians, critically acclaiming the quality and sound of this handmade instrument.   The motion graphics give this video an extra dimension. While the musician demonstrates the quality of the resonator guitar, the extra layer tells the story how the resonator guitar became well known and widespread within the music industry. Each graphic consists of multiple elements which were -in turn- linked to the frequency of the music. The video was shot in dynamic range, which allows for much more control over the colors, but always requires decent color grading. The color harmony is: brown (nostalgic, trustworthy) and blue (cool). hello@enak.be

Cinemagraphs

If a picture says more than a thousand words, a cinemagraph says more than a thousand pictures. Motion always catches the eye, but sometimes a 90 second video is just a little too much to tell the story. This is where cinemagraphs come in, combining motion and photography, they are a great way to create an eye-catching message without having to come up with an entire video concept.  And since they mainly consist of a still image, cinemagraphs easily allow for high-quality post-production and effects, on the contrary to their video counterparts, which consist of -at least- 25 pictures per second. Cinemegraphs are usually exported as GIFS. Which means that they are small, REALLY small, and they can go on forever, al GIFS are played in loop. The drawback is that animated GIFS are heavilly compressed, which leads to a loss in image quality. But what a fascinating thing they are indeed! TriFinance Cinemagraphs These cinemagraphs were ordered by TriFinance as visuals for their 2018 Recruitment campaign. All cinemagraphs were shot in the Sony Fs7, at 4k, with Astra 1x1 Bicolour Led lights as primary light source. This high-end workflow allowed for smooth post-production work without comprising quality. The sixth image shows all shots […]

The thing about working with TriFinance, is that they understand that if you want to stand out with your video, you have to do something different. NAG

The music video with which it all started. It was the first, well..., everything. Apart from the first project where we and co-director Mathias Verleyen tried to create a whole new world, it was also my first green key experience and first time compositing. After we had written the script, the question arose how the hell we were going to make this. "Well, I was thinking that maybe I should learn After Effects.' It shaped my entire career.
